It's common practice among employers that all job applications be submitted on-line through their Human Resources department website or through hiring agencies. Given your record there are three possible outcomes to applying
for work...
- You apply, go through the process and don't get the job. This simply means that they did not have an interest in hiring you for one or more reasons. Just because you're not hired does not mean it's due only to your record.
You may not have interviewed well, made a mistake on an application/résumé or you don't have the experience they're looking for. Learn from the experience and keep going.
- You apply, interview well and are offered a position contingent upon passing a drug test and background check. If the employer feels that your record is a
non-issue for them they'll never mention it.
- You receive an email from Human Resources asking you to explain the circumstances of your criminal history and why they should hire you. This is your chance to shine and take advantage of the opportunity.
If the employer is satisfied with your answer chances are they will hire you.
There's never any harm in applying.
